Rocket Lego Workshop: Build and test your rocket with generative AI

  • General Information IAGT

Rocket Lego is the workshop that IAGT took to the 5th Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair organized by Deutsche Schule Sevilla (German School) aimed at students in secondary education, high school, basic vocational training, and intermediate vocational training. For Women and Girls in Science Day, we want to share the details of this activity so that everyone can take it home and practice with the youngest members of their family.

What is Rocket Lego?

Participants work in teams to design and assemble a prototype rocket using Lego, applying basic principles of aerodynamics, structure, propulsion, etc. Then, using ChatGPT, we will evaluate whether their designs meet the essential physical criteria for a functional rocket and explore improvements based on feedback from the AI.

What will you learn?

  • Develop skills in the design and construction of aerospace structures.
  • Encourage creativity and teamwork.
  • Apply basic principles of engineering and physics in rocket construction.
  • Use Artificial Intelligence to validate the feasibility of designs.
  • Reflect on how AI can support innovation in engineering.

Results

A great and fun experience for everyone!

How to play Rocket Lego

Introduction to the workshop (10 min)

  • Presentation of the workshop dynamics and available materials.

Building rockets with Lego (30 min)

  • Participants discuss the project, share ideas, divide up tasks, and work in teams to design and assemble their prototype.
  • Pueden Pueden experimentar con diferentes formas, tamaños y estructuras. con diferentes formas, tamaños y estructuras.
  • They deliver a prototype.

Validation with Artificial Intelligence (20 min)

  • Each team describes the characteristics of their rocket in a detailed prompt for ChatGPT or uploads a very clear and visual photo to this tool. You can improve the prompt by asking it specific questions about the structure they have designed.
  • The AI evaluates key aspects of your rocket and studies its feasibility.
  • Teams receive feedback and ask the AI for suggestions for improvement.

Optimization and presentation (15 min)

  • Teams adjust their designs based on feedback.
  • Presentation of each rocket and explanation of its design.
  • ¿Le gustaría obtener más información sobre nuestras actividades con centros educativos?
  • A winner can be determined based on the criteria established by ChatGPT, and we can increase the difficulty by adding other more advanced criteria such as the actual costs of developing a similar structure.

Requirements and materials

  • Lego kits with various structural pieces.
  • Computers or tablets with access to ChatGPT.
  • Prior instructions on rocket principles or rules for using the game.
  • Ample space for teamwork and stability testing.

Why is this workshop innovative?

  • Integrates creativity, engineering, and technology into a hands-on experience.
  • Introduce AI as a tool for technical validation and design improvement.
  • Encourages critical thinking and learning based on experimentation.
